–FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS–
Each project I undertake is unique to you. If you are unable to see the answer to your question below please get in touch here or call me on 0777 181 0105 – I’d love to hear from you.
Q. What happens if it’s raining cold and overcast?
A. Great question! I am always monitoring the weather forecast to get an idea of what to expect. If torrential rain is forecast or happens on the day I’ll reschedule the shoot. Overcast and cloudy days give a lovely soft diffused light that is soft and complimentary so the shoot will go ahead.
Q. What times of day are best for outdoor family photoshoots?
A. The time of year determines the time of day. For example, an autumnal photoshoot in the woodlands is best around 4 pm to make the most of the beautiful golden sunlight low in the sky. This light gives a beautiful flattering glow and brings out the soft golden and copper tones of the foliage. For springtime photoshoots, especially amongst the bluebells in the woodlands, early in the morning around 9.30 am or later in the afternoon around 5.30 pm work well to make the most of the low sunshine which works particularly well for backlighting.
Q. How long do we need to book in advance?
A. I would suggest booking as soon as you have a date in mind, it’s never too early. We can take bookings a week before as well depending on availability. We have had requests the day before so worth contacting us here.
Q. How long do location photoshoots take?
A. I allow about an hour for the photoshoot. Any more than this and the spontaneity is lost with young children and others too!
Q. Can we include our pets in a photoshoot.
A. Yes dogs, rabbits and horses are very welcome on location, cats work better in a studio setting. I always recommend bringing some treats to hold your pets’ attention and to distract them as well
Q. What is involved with photographing collections of things?
A. Each commission is unique. I always start by talking to you to understand why the things you are choosing to have photographed are important to you or a loved one and how you would like them presented and when you are looking to have the end result. We then take it from there to create a plan of action and the costings involved.
Q. Why choose Stella to photograph my collection and lifestyle?
A. The people I work with tell me I’m friendly and approachable and easy to get along with. I bring a wealth of experience to handle the most challenging of briefs. By working with premium craftspeople I ensure your experience is an enjoyable and personal one. I offer an initial complimentary consultation to see if we are happy to work together. I pride myself on gaining your trust to deliver results that you will treasure for many, years to come.
Q. My collection is in different parts of the world, do you travel to different locations?
A. Yes this can be accommodated, I work with you to manage this and put a time frame and plan in place.
Q. I’m not creative and don’t know where to start, can you help?
A. Yes, I will guide you through the process. During an in-depth consultation, I’ll explain different options and what works best for you before any photography takes place, and I’ll carefully craft a proposal based on your individual requirements.
Q. We would like to commission you on behalf of a friend, how does this work?
A. Best we talk this through first to see how efficiently this can work before producing a plan of action on behalf of your friend.
Q. Can I choose to have the photographs you produce to go on the wall rather than in a book?
A. Yes you can. We can discuss your options to showcase your photographs for wall hanging such as acrylics, canvas and handcrafted frames. Often you won’t quite know how to display your photographs until you have seen them. I always present the images to you at your viewing session and suggest options on the screen to help you decide and show samples too.
Q. I live abroad most of the year, does this present a problem with choosing which photographs I’d like in the book?
A. We can communicate online and email for artwork drafts, so no, this isn't a problem. We like to involve you or your representative as much as possible.
Q. What happens if we are unwell on the day of the shoot?
A. let me know as soon as you can so we can reschedule.
Q. What sort of budget should I expect to spend?
.A. I find most customers spend between £2,000 to £6,000 on wall art, not including the location fee. Or if they are looking to produce a tailored BOOK it starts at £2500 and upwards.
Q. How many images do we get to choose from?
A. I don’t restrict the number of images I take because it’s all about spontaneity. Once I have edited them you’ll be shown the best ones, usually between 50-100 images. Most of my customers choose a series of images to display in multi-aperture frames or as Alumini or single images or canvases. You can see more here via the WALL ART link or BOOKS if you would like to create something a little bit different.
Q. Who has the Copyright to the Images?
A. I retain the copyright to all the images I take. I only sell images for headshots for reproduction in journals, websites, and similar. I grant you a license to use depending on where the image(s) might be reproduced. If we come to an agreement that I sell images from your location shoot, your license to use, will cover for personal use only and not to be entered into any competitions or sold to picture libraries or for any other third-party publications.
